Therapeutic coaching

Life can feel unmanageable, particularly when you’re overwhelmed by all the things you want to accomplish, and all the things you feel that you should be achieving as an adult.

Perhaps, the things that are holding you back are not caused by adulthood. You could be hindered by uncomfortable and unresolved emotions caused by traumas that happened a while ago. It’s possible that you may not even know what traumas or what emotions. This is where I am here to help you and where therapeutic coaching will be a hugely beneficial and life-changing service for you.

What is therapeutic coaching?

This comprehensive approach embraces a hybrid of both therapy and coaching facilitating high performance and mental wellbeing outcomes for individuals by combining the solution-focused energy, results driven and structure of coaching with the healing element of psychotherapy and counselling.

Enabling individuals in overcoming emotional setbacks and traumas in order to attain optimal emotional wellbeing, before progressing onto coaching. This ensures that clients are in their best emotional state possible to work on achieving professional and personal success.

Unlike conventional coaching approaches, which predominantly focus on the present and future, and traditional forms of therapy which focuses on the past; this hybrid approach integrates elements of both therapy and coaching, ensuring an all-inclusive transformational journey.

Benefis of therapeutic Coaching

Deep understanding: You will gain a profound psychological understanding and insight about yourself, your thoughts, behaviours, emotions and your relationship with others. We will go deep in uncovering what has caused these behaviours, emotions, thought patterns and how they have impacted your ability to accomplish your personal and professional goals.

Increased self-awareness: By unblocking barriers and facilitating tangible shifts in behaviour and thought patterns at both conscious and unconscious levels.

Enhanced emotional well-being: Therapeutic coaching provides a supportive environment for individuals to explore and address emotional challenges. Through various techniques and strategies, this service helps clients manage stress, anxiety and other emotional issues. This support can lead to improved emotional regulation and a better overall sense of well-being.

Improved goal achievement and performance: One of the primary focuses of therapeutic coaching is to help clients overcome psychological difficulties so that they’re in their best state possible to achieve whatever they desire. By addressing and eradicating hinderances such as unhelpful behaviours, negative thought patterns and emotional set-backs caused by traumas, toxic relationships, family problems, past events, adversities etc, therapeutic coaching ensures that clients are in their best emotional state possible to work on achieving professional and personal success.

Who is therapeutic coaching best suited for?

I have found that my clients who come to me for relationship coaching and confidence coaching in particular tend to opt for the therapeutic coaching programme. Additionally, this programme is hugely beneficial for people struggling with low self-esteem, social anxiety, overwhelm, perfectionism, procrastination, low self-worth, negative self-talk. This is because generally speaking, people who are facing those sorts of challenges tend to have more deep-rooted psychological difficulties that should be addressed for optimal results.

As a qualified coach with an academic background in psychology and psychotherapy. I believe that for people who are functioning (i.e. able to carry out day to day tasks; such as maintaining personal hygiene, making meals, doing laundry etc), however, are unable to achieve their more significant life goals, due to deep-rooted and unresolved traumas; that therapeutic coaching would produce the most advantageous results.

This is because if someone has suffered past traumas which are hindering them from achieving success in a particular area(s) today. Their results would be optimal if we began their self-development journey by addressing and healing from their traumas, before progressing onto coaching.

Therapeutic coaching creates a solid foundation that enables individuals to overcome deep-rooted issues, emotional setbacks and past traumas, to achieve optimal emotional wellbeing before progressing onto the coaching sessions. Ensuring that no stone is left unturned, that we have addressed and defeated all traumas that could have otherwise prevented future success.

Examples of people who would be excellent candidates for therapeutic coaching

If I had a client who wanted confidence coaching, however, the reasons they lacked confidence were because they were badly bullied. It would be futile to just carry out life coaching sessions, as if nothing in their past is affecting them today. In order for this client to achieve their goal of becoming confident, we will need to perform therapy sessions first to address and overcome their past traumas. Thereafter, combine coaching and therapy to defeat the underlying problem. Followed by coaching on its own to ensure this client achieves his or her goal of becoming confident.

Let’s take a more in-depth example of someone who wants to hire me as their dating coach; they have been on the dating scene for years and are still struggling to meet the right person. This person has a great job, is thriving financially; has a fulfilling social life, with lots of genuine friends. In their initial consultation, they open up to me and say that their father become an estranged father and abandoned them when they were 12. Thereafter, their mother became emotionally abusive towards them. As an only child, they had no one to share this distressing experience with growing up. This person is not suffering from depression, because they have pleasure in socialising and are motivated in their career. They are functioning and they want to achieve a significant life goal in the near future; consequently, they’re not the right candidate for therapy. However, they are affected by unresolved, deep-rooted traumas which is hindering their romantic life. Therefore, the best course of action for this person would be therapeutic coaching. Because, we will be able to address the past; work on overcoming their traumas. Thereafter, apply coaching techniques to achieve their goal of meeting someone.

Who is therapeutic coaching not for?

If you or your loved one is unable to function on a day-to-day basis due to a severe mental health disorder or an addiction. I will not be able to help you at this stage, you would probably be best to speak to a psychiatrist. As anyone suffering to that degree would be best suited for medical treatment and/or to undergo psychological treatment, so that they can heal and recover before coming to a therapeutic coach.

If you’re looking for quick results and to achieve a goal quickly such as changing careers, starting a business, meeting a partner etc, and you do not believe that traumas, past events, emotional setbacks are what is hindering you, then you’re best to just enrol in my coaching programme.

 Still not sure?

If you’re not sure what programme is best for you, don’t worry, a lot of my clients who have come to me have not been certain on which  programme would be best suited to them. It is always something that I will help you with and something we can discuss in the free consultation.
